Energy Conservation Campaign

LEED GuidebookThe District's Energy Conservation Campaign encourages employees to reduce their energy consumption in District facilities. District employees have a direct impact on the amount of energy being used in the office environment. Employees control the lights, computers and other electronic equipment at their work station.

Energy Conservation Tips:

  1. Shut off computers, monitors and printers at night
  2. Eliminate appliances at work stations (e.g. microwaves, heaters, refrigerators and extra lamps)
  3. Turn off lights at night and where lighting is sufficient, such as near windows
  4. Use power strips and turn them off at day's end
  5. Update your computer energy and power save settings
  6. Reduce thermostats to efficient levels (78 degrees in the summer and 68 degrees in the winter)

More than a third of the District's energy use comes from the electronic equipment plugged into wall sockets. Did you know that items such as fans and personal heaters use significantly more energy than desktop computers and desk lamps?
